A Brief History

When people ask me how I got so interested in food, I reflect back to when at the age of seventeen I was invited to a traditional "feast of the seven fishes" on Christmas Eve with an Italian family.  It was the first time I saw oysters, and from that moment my eyes glistened with the prospect of a world undiscovered - and it was going to be tasty.

My passion grew slow and deep - years of curiosity in Chicago, the tastes of Brazil, a love for gardening and colour - and eventually became an insatiable intrigue for cultural food traditions, modern food trends, the pure beauty nature provides, and eating whole food.

Serendipity introduced me to a wonderful family who own an Italian restaurant in my old neighbourhood and it was there my love affair with wine began.  We spent endless nights debating, swirling glasses, revealing ourselves, inhaling stewed berry aromas, laughing, arguing, and appreciating the complexities of this intoxicating experience - both wine and life.

In 2010 I was given the opportunity to move to London, and amongst all its wonderful gifts, the ability to travel around the world - immersing into what makes a region unique, eating their food, drinking their wine, and learning just a little bit more about what it is that makes them who they are - is what makes me stay.  There is so much yet to taste with your eyes and feed your soul.

This is the oenophoodie - a collection of inspiration from hyper-local foods to the vastness of regional wines, and the bliss of travelling to experience them where they originate or cozied up in your own home.  I hope it brings you joy.  Go somewhere.  Eat their food.  Drink their wine.
